3rd TERM SPEAKING PROJECT

 


ORAL PRESENTATION

You have to prepare an oral presentation on a given topic for your speaking assessment. You have to use some visual support (power point, google slides, adobe spark, canva ….)

Talking time: 3 or 4 minutes


 Procedure:

1. Read and follow the instructions in the guide notes for your oral presentation following these steps:

1.     Start brainstorming your topic. 

2.     Start finding your information.

3.     Write an outline of your presentation. Remember your presentation time is limited.

4.     Start organizing your material and write a rough draft.  

5.     Plan and prepare any visual aids you want to use.

6.     Write the final version of your project.

2. Rehearse at home. Practise your oral presentation in front of your family, friends or record yourself.

Structure of your oral presentation

INTRODUCTION

1.Greet the audience, introduce yourself and reveal your topic to the audience. If the topic is of general interest, explain why it is important for them to learn about. In your introduction you must clearly state the purpose of your presentation. 

2.Create an effective opening that will interest your audience: pose a question, tell a joke, show a shocking photo, give an amazing fact, or tell a short, interesting story.

 BODY

Present and explain your main points one by one. 

 CONCLUSION

1. Provide a clear summary of your main points.

2. Thank your audience and handle questions.

Useful language for presentations

Explain what your presentation is about at the beginning:

I’m going to talk about ...
I’d like to talk about ...

The main focus of this presentation is ...

Use these expressions to order your ideas:

First of all, ...
Firstly, ...
Then, ...
Secondly, ...
Next, ...
Finally, ...
Lastly, ...
To sum up, ...
In conclusion, ...

Use these expressions to add more ideas from the same point of view:

In addition, ...
What’s more, ...
Also, ...
Added to this, ...

To introduce the opposite point of view you can use these words and expressions:

However, ...
On the other hand, ...
Then again, ...

Conclusion

·    Let me end by saying...

·    In conclusion I'd like to say...

·    In conclusion I would like to say that...

·    I would like to finish by reminding everyone that...
