THE YEAR IN RAP 2012

The year is about to finish, watch the video from Flocabulary and look back at the most important news in 2012. The transcript is below the video.

Flocab, Year in Rap. It’s been a crazy year, right? Lot of ups, lot of downs, a whole lot of change. But life goes on, so let’s take a second to look back.

Shout out to 2012, we did it,
Another Year in Rap, get with it.
Romney won the GOP nomination,
But Obama won when they polled the whole nation.
It wouldn’t mean a thing if he didn’t win the swing
States but he did, that’s Obama for the win.
Plus he gave more rights to young immigrants,
And he stated support for same sex marriages.
The Supreme Court upheld Obamacare,
Even Justice Roberts didn’t want it out of here.
Marijuana’s legal in a couple states,
Facebook stock fell on its face.
Tragedy makes it hard to stay calm,
Some put their hoodies up for Trayvon.
Let’s not forget the gun violence in Aurora,
Or the Sikh temple
, I can’t believe the horror.
Pop culture lost star power too, son,
From Dick Clark to Whitney Houston.
Plus Neil Armstrong – dead and gone,
But don’t confuse him with Lance Armstrong,
Stripped of his Tour de France titles
 for doping,
Sandusky scandal came into the open.
NY, SF Giants like Andre,
And the Heat got a ring
 for Lebron James.
Usain Bolt on the track that he scorched,
London lit up the Olympic torch.
Hunger Games, Twilight smashed of course,
Gangnam Style we rode an invisible horse.
Yeah, let’s take it overseas to the Middle East,
Where we seen new regimes but the beef doesn’t cease.
First ever elections in Egypt and Libya,
They’ve got democracy
, I’m not kidding ya.
But Syria’s a civil war scene,
I hope we’ll see peace in 2013.
Militants attacked in Benghazi,
Now the US Ambassador is RIP.
But the Taliban couldn’t stop Malala Just 15, she’s a leader and a scholar.
Now
Palestine is a recognized state,
Arctic ice is melting at a record rate.
Plus the drought was worst in a century,
And Sandy was the Northeast’s enemy.
Another rover on Mars, no lie,
We saw a space shuttle catch a piggyback ride.
We saw a dude jump out of space,
Look at that – say that you’re not amazed.
We live in times that the Mayans couldn’t dream,
Year in Rap, you’re in 2013!
Let’s go!

15 MOST USEFUL PHRASAL VERBS

A phrasal verb is a combination of words that takes on unique meaning. Because they have little to do with the words they are made of, they can be confusing to those learning English.

COCA-COLA 2012 CHRISTMAS AD

Coke 2012 Christmas ad campaign is called "Together We Make the Magic Happen". No doubt Christmas holidays are very near. Watch the ad and start dreaming.

The song is by Lauriana Mae, Grayson Sanders and Jono and it is called "Something in the Air" The lyrics are below .

You can feel it when we wake up
We're all travelin' cause tonight
We're all sitting around the table
The holiday when we're able, oh oh.
To raise a Coke in celebration
Telling stories of the days when these friend were all that we could see
Now our faces gather again to light the tree
Cause we know it's Christmas.

(CHORUS)
There's somethin' in the air
Somethin' in the air
Somethin' that keeps us together.

Stronger as we share
We came from everywhere
But tonight we all come together.

You can see familiar face
Can't stop the love that keeps us in one place.

Somethin' in the air
Somethin' in the air
It's Christmas in the air that keeps us together.

Woh oh oh...

Moved off to different places
Through the west and trough the east
But it's funny how things they never change
We can grow a hundred different ways and stay the same.
It's Christmas, our vacation
Made a wish across the nation
Now we are reunited we can act young
Singing songs we always sung.

(CHORUS)
There's somethin' in the air
Somethin' in the air
Somethin' that keeps us together.

Stronger as we share
We came from everywhere
But tonight we all come together.

You can see familiar face
Can't stop the love that keeps us in one place.

Somethin' in the air
Somethin' in the air
It's Christmas in the air that keeps us together.

Yeah,
We just remembered all the reasons
To keep connected through the seasons
We got the power of the North Pole
Building bigger hearts and bigger souls.

(CHORUS)
There's somethin' in the air
Somethin' in the air
Somethin' that keeps us together.

Stronger as we share
We came from everywhere
But tonight we all come together.

You can see familiar face
Can't stop the love that keeps us in one place.

Somethin' in the air
Somethin' in the air
It's Christmas in the air that keeps us together.

(whistle)

Keeps us together...
It's Christmas in the air that keeps us together
.

ANIMAL FARM

Animal Farm is George Orwell's satire on equality, where all barnyard animals live free from their human masters' tyranny. Inspired to rebel by Major, an old boar, animals on Mr. Jones's Manor Farm embrace Animalism and stage a revolution to achieve an idealistic state of justice and progress. A power-hungry pig, Napoleon, becomes a totalitarian dictator who leads the Animal Farm into" All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others".
Animal Farm is an allegory. The main action of Animal Farm stands for the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the early years of the Soviet Union. Animalism is really communism. Manor Farm is allegorical of Russia, and the farmer Mr. Jones is the Russian Czar. Old Major stands for either Karl Marx or Vladimir Lenin, and the pig named Snowball represents the intellectual revolutionary Leon Trotsky. Napoleon stands for Stalin, while the dogs are his secret police. The horse Boxer stands in for the proletariat, or working class.
The most famous line from the book is "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others". This line is emblematic of the changes that George Orwell believed followed the 1917 Communist Revolution in Russia. Rather than eliminating the capitalist class system it was intended to overthrow, the revolution merely replaced it with another hierarchy. The line is also typical of Orwell's belief that those in power usually manipulate language to their own benefit.
