PHONETICS

If we want to know how a word is pronounced in English, we usually check a dictionary. Nowadays, online dictionaries are talking dictionaries and we can hear the pronunciation. But we also find the phonetic transcription next to the word. Something like this:

/ˈfɑːðəʳ/
/bɛəʳ/
Can you read those words?

ENJOY THE WEEKEND!!

After a hard week, we all deserve some time off. As promised, here you have some reading practice, a video and the song of the week.

PHONETICS

Correct pronunciation is a basis for efficient communication in English. It is not necessary to master a native accent but we have to be clear and comprehensive.

The first step is to train your mouth with the International Phonetic Alphabet in English.

Click on the following link and have a look at the most typical mistakes.

A lot of practice is needed, so try with this.

THE BRITISH

Welcome to our computer room, let's hope everything works and we can do some activities.
Many things have changed in the UK in the last 30 or 50 years, just the same as in Spain or any other European country. Today you are going to watch a video about changes in social attitudes in UK and then do some comprehension questions. I will hand out some photocopies and you have to give them back to me before the class finishes. Do the activities on the photocopy, you don't have to do all the others.I will direct you to a wonderful blog now, where you will find the video.

The EFL SMARTblog: How much have the British changed?

When finished, please try this English Level Test and discover your English level.

Finally, feel free to browse the blog and design your own learning.
